Sometimes clients say the darnedest things. There have been been many times I’ve just sat there staring, wondering if they really know what they just said.

When was the last time you were asked, “can I just print my own copies” or “can you Photoshop this out”? If so, you should really appreciate this video…. Shtuff People Say to Photographers

Hey Photographer – Are You A Storyteller?

One of the things that set us apart from other photographers early on was our storytelling. We didn’t believe photography was all we had to offer. Instead, we chose to take it to a different level and offer storytelling through our albums. We regularly sold three to five albums to our clients, so I guess they loved it as well.

Storytelling involves many things. It involves thinking ahead of time about what you want to capture. It involves understanding what will happen and being there ready and in position before it does. It also involves being ready for the unexpected as well.

Dig Deeper: 7 Tips For Visual Storytelling

I ran across a great series of videos today by Ira Glass who hosts This American Life on Public Radio. He has a series of four videos in which he goes over his ideas on what it takes to be a storyteller – all are good and worth listening to.

But it’s a compilation video that really caught my eye. The way its written can be an inspiration to any creative artist. It may be just what you need as you begin planning for a New Year.

The Best Three Minutes – Be Motivated Today

If you work online for any length of time, you understand the risks of having access to just about everything right at your finger tips. Just today, I’ve visited several of my favorite blogs, checked out several news sites, visited Amazon and made a purchase, and got lost in Internet surfing as well.

One of the great things about surfing is occasionally you find real gems that are worth putting your business aside for a few minutes, and taking in something new and completely inspiring. And today I think I’ve found something that will do the trick.

Take a look at these three videos – Move Eat Learn – all produced by a team out of Australia.

Wedding Photographer Stumbles

UPDATE: After a short timeframe, the company decided to pull the video due to copyright. It’s also a sign of someone not understanding how to best use social. Instead of pulling it, they should have added logos and website addresses to catapult themselves with the free traffic they were getting.

Expensive camera equipment and walking backwards at a wedding can be a recipe for disaster. Watch the end of the video for what’s important, hint…it’s not the photographer.

WPPI Tradeshow Fast Tour

WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) 2010 was a great event this year. Over 14,000 photographers attended this 9 day event. Speakers from all over the world presented in master and platform class formats. Amazing artists and photographers spoke during this event included: Bambi Cantrell, Kevin Kubota, Ken Sklute, Clay Blackmore, Jerry Ghionis, Mike Colon and Jim Davis-Hicks just to name a few.

The tradeshow was so incredible that 2 areas had to be used to host everyone.  Vendors showed off everything from albums to cameras, photography labs to Photoshop. We wanted to show how amazing this display of amazing selection of photography related vendor was that we video recorded a walk through and then adjusted the speed to play twice as fast. Take a look at these 2 videos and sample the amazing display presented at WPPI 2010.

Face Off With A Deadly Predator

Sometimes it’s amazing looking into another world. In the chilly waters of Antarctica with camera in hand, Paul Nicklen, a photographer for National Geographic, describes his encounter with one of the largest Leopard Seals he’s ever seen. This story really makes you wonder how all animal life is really connected. And it also makes you wish you could experience even a fraction of this on assignment, camera in hand.
