What's On Your Mind?
Q: I was invited to have a booth at a home show for a reduced cost. How do I know if it's a good deal?
A: Booths at any type of event is just another way of marketing. As with any marketing technique, you have to determine if you can easily make your money back. If you feel the answer is yes, go for it!
The first thing to look at is to determine if your type of photography matches the clientele at the home show. If you photograph families and babies, a home show may be a good choice, as most homeowners have families. Next, determine how many portrait sittings you would need to cover your costs. Costs would include the cost of the booth, your labor charges, plus lost costs of portraits you may have done during the show itself. Finally, determine if you can reasonably expect to book that many new clients from this show. If there's expected to be over 50,000 in attendance, and you only need 3 sittings to cover your cost, it's probably a good deal.
